Favorite/Notable Modern DM Pt. 4
After a fun week of community service and Sput being down, we're finally back with some more death metal! This will probably be the final part (for now at least), although I might make a list of some of my favorites among more "well-known" bands. Enjoy! |
1 | | A Flock Named Murder Incendiary Sanctum
Atmospheric black/death metal with some really compelling and rich songwriting/riffs. |
2 | | Depravity (AUS) Grand Malevolence
Vicious brutal/technical dm with tons of riffage. |
3 | | Maze of Sothoth Extirpated Light
Fast-paced with sick drumming and evil guitarwork. |
4 | | Ukhel Bred to Conquer
A really strong debut, very excited to see more from this group. |
5 | | The Last of Lucy Godform
I don't listen to much deathcore at all these days. However, when a group is able to put together such a beast of an album that draws from tech/brutal death metal and deathcore without being a boring chugfest, I'm more than down. |
6 | | Nightbearer Defiance
Sick old-school inspired melodeath with hints of black metal and perfect production. |
7 | | Skaphos Cult of Uzura
Toes the line between black and death metal while creating an unholy atmosphere. |
8 | | Blasteroid Crypts of Mind
Thrashy, technical death metal that reminds me of perhaps a mix of Revocation and Vektor? Sounds sick regardless. |
9 | | Moss Upon The Skull Quest For The Secret Fire
Strange, proggy DM with some really cool riffs, very interesting stuff! |
10 | | Lvcifyre The Broken Seal
Insanely potent blackened death metal. |
11 | | Coffin Curse The Continuous Nothing
Ripping OSDM that is sure to melt your facebrain. |
12 | | Osserp Els Nous Cants de la Sibil·la
Blast-filled, murky and malicious death metal. |
13 | | Protosequence Bestiary
Awesome stuff with varied riffs and vocals, always keeps you guessing. |
14 | | Swampbeast Offering of Chaos, Lamenting in the Blood of Man
Cavernous, murky, nasty OSDM. |
15 | | Lie in Ruins Floating in Timeless Streams
More great old-school inspired nasty death metal with some great fast-paced tremelo riffing. |
16 | | Cephalotripsy Epigenetic Neurogenesis
Potent, bone-crushing brutal DM. |
17 | | Xoth Interdimensional Invocations
I think this one is slightly better than their follow-up, if only because of the mixing/mastering. Thrashy, technical, and tons of fun. |
18 | | Aenigmatum Deconsecrate
Some epic riffs and plenty of momentum on this one. |
19 | | Replicant Infinite Mortality
I'll have to go back and check their previous work, because this album kicks ass. Heavy and wonky in all the best ways. |
20 | | Adversarial Solitude with the Eternal...
Blackened death metal with some very deep vocals and tons of great guitarwork. |
21 | | Sallow Moth Stasis Cocoon
Chaotic and strange with influences from all over the place. |
22 | | Cuttered Flesh Love at First Bite
Really sick brutal/technical death metal. |
23 | | Wharflurch Psychedelic Realms ov Hell
Psychedelic death/doom with some awesome leads/solos. |
24 | | Sunless Ylem
Skronky, dissonant DM with some fantastic, subtle drumming. |
25 | | Serocs The Phobos / Deimos Suite
One of my favorites in recent years, there aren't many death metal albums able to keep shoving riff after riff in your face like this. |
26 | | Shadow in the Darkness Erstwhile Befell
Super techy DM, without being too wanky or sweepy (although there's plenty of that to go around). |
27 | | Nucleus (USA-IL) Entity
Fun, almost bouncy DM with a lot of those wonky Finnish(?) riffs. |
28 | | Goath IV: Silencing the Prophets of Deceit
Damn, this is some relentless and heavy death metal right here. Tons of evil riffs. |
29 | | Astralborne Across the Aeons
Epic, fast-paced melodic death metal with a bit of black metal thrown in. |
30 | | Carnosus Visions of Infinihility
Badass melo/techdeath that will scratch your TBDM itch like few others can. |
31 | | Question Reflections of the Void
Varied, off-the-wall OSDM with great songwriting, riffs, and vocals. |
32 | | Noxis Violence Inherent In The System
More nasty OSDM with plenty of blast beats. |
33 | | Execration (NOR) Return to the Void
This group has shifted styles slightly over the years, but it's basically just weird OSDM that melts my neurons. |
34 | | Unbirth Fleshforged Columns of Deceit
Truly amazing technical/brutal death metal. I enjoyed their newest album too, but this takes the cake as one of the best in years. |
35 | | Outer Heaven Infinite Psychic Depths
I think this one made a splash around here, but I return to it often. Nasty, wild OSDM. |
36 | | Devangelic Xul
Brutal death metal with and Egyptian-esque atmospheric. I wouldn't call them a Nile copycat at all though. |
37 | | Devoid of Thought Outer World Graves
The album art first caught my eye, and the riffs kept me there. |
38 | | Lunar Blood Twilight Insurgency
Ripping OSDM, sure to please any fan of the genre. |
39 | | Phobocosm Foreordained
Dense, atmospheric, and doomy death metal. |
40 | | Arkaik Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts
They've been a mixed bag over the years but this one is killer all the way through. |
41 | | Uttertomb Nebulas Of Self-Desecration
Fast-paced, cavernous OSDM. |
42 | | Decaying Purity Mass Extinction Of The Providential Ones
Technical, brutal and slightly raw with tons of blasts and great riffs. |
43 | | Toxaemia Rejected Souls of Kerberus
Makes that classic death metal sound fresh as hell. |
44 | | Putrascension Forever Below
Heavy, ethereal, and blackened in all the right places, with some great vocals. |
